First picture of jailed star

Exclusive by Graham Brough 19/01/2009
Boy George sits forlornly on a bed in his tiny jail cell signing autographs for fellow prisoners.
It is the first picture of the fallen pop star since he was jailed on Friday.
A prison source said George's cellmate, a large Jamaican called Dread, is acting as his minder. He added: The prison authorities thoughthe might be picked on for being weak so they are paying this guy with cigarettes and polo mints to protect him.
They are normally given to new inmates as an one-off but this guy is getting regular supplies to look after George.
The source said ex-Culture Club singer George, 47, who has been wearing a T-shirt featuring a pair of glittery handcuffs, needed a minder because he seemed disorientated by life in London's Pentonville Prison.
He added: It's like he's in another world. He looks scared.
He keeps forgetting where his cell is whenever he leaves it. He loses his bearings. The source said prisoners have been flocking to meet the singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd. He added: They go to his cell all day in twos and threes for autographs.
He just introduces himself as George O'Dowd and shakes hands. He doesn't say a lot.
He's got a job as a kitchen worker which is a cushy number. It would take a normal prisoner months to get a job like that. The source said George sobbed in the van taking him to prison after he was sentenced to 15 months on Friday for chaining 28-year-old male escort Audun Carlsen to a wall at his East London home.
He added: He broke down in the van to the jail and received a bit of abuse for crying.
The officer told him to keep his head up. He was offered a place on the vulnerable prisoner wing but turned it down. Instead he is with the normal population, from murderers to remand prisoners.
Dread is believed to be on remand facing burglary charges.
George, a recovering junkie, is said to have been horrified when he arrived in his cell to find the sheets had not been changed since the last inmate.
He asked for fresh sheets and was issued with some.

Family and friends gasped as the bloated former Culture Club frontman was locked up. He remained impassive, looking worried only following the reaction of his supporters in the public gallery. Moments earlier, his barrister told the court: The humiliation of this is going to live with him forever. Outside court, his brother Kevin O'Dowd yelled at photographers and had to be restrained before breaking down and sobbing. Boy George, 47 real name George O'Dowd was convicted of false imprisonment at an earlier trial. Thrashed He shackled Norwegian Audun Carlson, 29, to a hook on his bedroom wall. His victim escaped by dislodging the handcuff, claiming George thrashed him with a metal chain as he did so. Carlson, who met the singer and DJ through the Gaydar website, fled semi-clothed from the flat in Shoreditch, East London.
George, who sold more than 50million records with Culture Club, told cops he detained Carlson to investigate whether he had tampered with his computer. But Carlson claimed the Karma Chameleon star concocted the story to punish him for not having sex at an earlier meeting. Sentencing, Judge David Radford told George: You assaulted the victim...by handcuffing him to your bed and inflicting on him additional wholly gratuitous violence beyond that needed merely to secure his physical restraint. Whilst I accept that Mr Carlson's physical injuries were not serious or permanent, in my view there can be no doubt your pre-meditated, callous and humiliating handcuffing and detention of Mr Carlson shocked, degraded and traumatised him.
He was deprived of his liberty and human dignity without warning or justification. Before sentence, Adrian Waterman, QC, defending, told London's Snaresbrook Crown Court: This case was not about retribution for sexual rejection four months earlier. The defendant falls to be sentenced for less than ten minutes of unlawfully imprisoning Mr Carlson. That is a wholly different category from a malicious and brutal attack on a man who refused to have sex with him.Mr Waterman said that friends of George, speaking during the trial, had said the actions of the men sounded like two drug-crazed idiots. He added: I submit that there's a great deal of truth in that. But he said George was on the way up and added: He is a recovering drug addict and is rediscovering himself.
Mr Waterman said the cost of the incident would be truly enormous as George may not now be allowed to perform in America and Japan. George, now of North London, was also ordered to pay £5,000 costs. In 2006 George was handed community service in New York after he said a rent boy tried to rob him and cops found cocaine in his flat.
